Sometimes wonderful things happen!
February 2013
Classmate, Carole Boyling Brooks, contacted me about a memorabilia donation to the class of ’59 Memories Website collection. At first, she had a bound copy of the Reville Review Newsletters from our senior year at Newark High School in Newark, Ohio. The idea was to scan the contents and display the newsletters on this website. Unfortunately, that would have required destroying the book's binding.

After additional searching around her Hillsborough, California home, Carole discovered she also had a complete non-bound collection of the newsletters. Those Reville Reviews are now being scanned and will be presented on this Memory Website, over the course of the next year. Click on the button below, in the left column, that says Reveille Reviews.

A year ago you read about classmate Tom Wortman's induction into the Newark High School Athletic Hall of Fame. Now check out Tom and Nancy Wortman's high profile daughter, Nashville's Jules Wortman.

Many of you country music fans and Newark High School band members will find this inside look at Nashville most interesting. Not to mention you "Pickers" who have had a suitcase packed and ready for a trip to Tennessee for, oh maybe fifty years now.

Jules Wortman Pomeroy, in her own mind, is likely just a gal from East Tennessee who walked through the Music Row doorway, took advantage of opportunities that came her way, worked hard and saw her efforts pay off.

band room
Why did they call it the "Band Room"? It wasn't a room, it was the noisest place on earth. Where you waited forever on your babe to finally be released from the grip of Myron Pearce. Art classes were upstairs, Mr. Martin reading Mad Magazine.

Gardening is how I relax. It's another form of creating and playing with colors.   Designer Philip quoting Oscar de la Renta

My guess is it would be classified as a psychological disorder, but I have a tough time throwing things away. There are notes passed to me in the third grade, at Roosevelt Junior High School, stuck away in boxes in my attic.

In Reynoldsburg, Ohio, where i live, my community dedication was to the Historical Society where another large website was created. This details events back to the eighteen hundreds.

The www.nerkahia.com website you have reached here, is my way of reliving all those wonderful years of growing up in Newark, Ohio. Long live the Fifties!

After my sixtieth year, people started referring to me as a "Historian."

In all my treasures of the past however, one has eluded me. That is a photo of the Fairfield Shoppe, formerly located at the corner of Fairfield Avenue and Mt. Vernon Road in Newark, Ohio. If anyone out there has any type of photograph of this hallowed site, please do not hesitate to send it to me.

     Finally !!!

A miracle has happened, sent to me on Christmas Eve 2011, by classmate Julie Ketner. A 1957 partial photo of the Fairfield Shoppe, the dark building to the right of the pick-up truck. Julie's brother, Bob, looks for buried treasure.

Any photos from your youth are welcomed on this site. This includes photos of buildings and places where all of us hung out. Send them to my email address, drop them off or mail copies of them to:
